European Academy of Otology & Neuro - Otology



This course is intended for practicing otolaryngologists, neurotologists, pediatric otolaryngologists, fellows and otolaryngology residents in training with a range of experience in middle ear surgery who would like to begin, expand or refine their skills in endoscopic ear surgery.

Course Overview

This course provides both didactic and hands-on experience in the state-of-the-art techniques and applications of endoscopic ear surgery (EES). Comprised of lectures, laboratory dissections of the temporal bone, live surgery and panel discussion, the course will cover current surgical techniques, equipment and instrumentation, anatomy and pathology of the temporal bone, surgical outcomes and future directions of endoscopic ear surgery. Course material and hands-on laboratory dissection will be appropriate for both novice and advanced endoscopic ear surgeons.

Topics to be presented:

· Principles and history of endoscopic ear surgery

· Endoscopic anatomy and ventilation pathways of the middle ear

· Current applications, diagnosis and patient selection for endoscopic ear surgery

· Endoscopic surgical techniques for tympanoplasty, ossiculoplasty, cholesteatoma management and middle ear tumor resection

· Expanding applications of endoscopic ear surgery including cochlear implantation and skull base tumor resection
